Day Dreaming

Krista and Chris share a tender moment in Jemison Park in Mountain Brook. Their wedding is in July and they seem a perfect match. I'm always grateful to be a part of a couples launch into a new life.

Britni in Black and White

I love digital photography but I do miss film grain sometimes, especially in black and white... luckily technology allows us to add it when we want to. Click on the photo for a larger view.

Today would have been my parents wedding anniversary, it's the first year that I don't have either of them to celebrate the occasion. If you are still able to call your parents, do it.

Britni at the ranch

I had the pleasure of working in a new venue yesterday, Rancho de las Aguilas, with one of my current brides. The owners are very pleasant folks and have a real desire to make sure everything goes smoothly. Check out their website for more info. www.estateweddingandevents.com

in the garden

Meet Britain, a new bridal client. She and her intended, Barry, braved the first chilly day of the season for their engagement session... an early morning shiver through the Botanical Gardens. Though they were in clothing better suited to August rather than late October, neither uttered a single complaint. As is the usual case, here's a shot that caught my eye while editing the session. I'll post a few more pix with both of them in a day or two.

Britni & Casey

I know... I've been terrible about posting this year... but here's quick sample from an engagement shoot yesterday. We had a laugh filled session as we explored the autumn colors at Birmingham's Botanical Gardens. Their wedding is next May so we'll have a beautiful spring palette to complement their fall engagement photos.

Happy Sam

This close up caught my eye as I was working on posting Sam and Kai's wedding photos so I thought I'd share it with you.

As with all my blog posts, you may click on the picture for a larger image.

Sam & Kai

The first shot is Samantha looking at the valley that leads to a beautiful horse barn and to the lake just beyond. The next is a quiet moment just before running the gauntlet of well wishers and jumping into their power boat to speed away across Lake Martin to their honeymoon. The wedding and reception took place at the charming Springhouse Restaurant near Alexander City, AL. The rest of their wedding pictures will soon be published on my website, www.rickpennington.com

Wyoming to Alabama

Another bride for Rick Pennington Photography. Sam (Samantha) and her intended, Kai, are currently living in Wyoming but will tie the knot in Alabama this April. Sam and I met quite a while ago and really meshed! Thanks for your trust in me, I'm honored to be your guy.

Personal note.... Today is my Mom's 80th birthday, Happy Birthday Mom!

Saturday matinee

Ellen and Angel had a mid morning wedding at the 1890 Chapel and asked me to attend to the photography duties. It was low key affair with just a few close friends and family as witness to their vows. Here's a small sample of the key players in their simple but moving celebration of love. The entire wedding is online at www.rickpennington.com

Searching for simplicity

Ellen is getting married in the charming 1890 Wedding Chapel in Wilsonville, AL. You can tell that the day will be a lot of fun by the sparkle in her eyes.

This will be my first wedding in the recently renovated venue. Check out it's early American style at http://www.elegantlysimpleweddings.com/

If you love technology

As social media, smart phones, computers, PDAs and the web continue their relentless flood into every area of our lives I've decided to jump on the crest of the digital wave. The hot new device in the cool Apple collection of tech tools is the iPad, a stunning cross of computer, music player, internet portal, book reader, video player and swiss army knife of apps that make it seem a necessity for everyone that touches it. The jaw dropping 10" high resolution screen alone is a valid reason for getting one, which is why I'm now offering my brides the option of receiving their wedding pictures on a new iPad! Imagine, all your photos in rich vibrant color right at your finger tips everywhere you go. Want to email someone a few shots? Click. Want to post photos to your Facebook page? Done. Want to make a slideshow? Push one button. Please call to make an appointment for details.

Just add water

Joni & James tied the knot yesterday in Fairhope, AL. The informal ceremony was held overlooking Mobile Bay. Perfect weather mixed with the warmth of close friends to make an enjoyable afternoon of well wishes, backslapping and tender moments. Of course I also made several of my signature dramatic photographs. The entire wedding will posted on www.rickpennington.com next week.

A cool couple on a hot day

You'd never know from this shot that Frederica and James were wilting in 95% humidity as we strolled through the Botanical Gardens. I should have the rest of the shots on my website, www.rickpennington.com, in a few days.

Jessica & Riley

In between the madness that has become my life I found a quiet moment to watch a young Mom with her first child. Riley quickly lost interest in favor of a nap but I did capture a few nice reminders of this special time in both their lives. Additional samples will be online at www.rickpennington.com in a few days.

Second City to Magic City

Frederica and James just relocated from Chicago and are tying the knot in September. I think what sealed the deal for me to shoot the wedding is I'm also a big Michael Jordan fan.

Informal vows

A rare Friday morning wedding today at the Country Club of Birmingham. At the last moment the couple decided not to elope and quickly pulled together a charming celebration. It was a nice change of pace. The second picture is the couple's Moms locked arm in arm watching their kids get married, in all the weddings I've photographed this is unique.

Brittany & Mark, Matthews Manor

A couple of my favorites from this past Saturday. Matthews Manor is a beautiful place for a wedding, I always find something unusual to shoot when I work there. www.matthewsmanor.com
The rest of the pictures will be online at www.rickpennington.com in a couple of weeks

Mysterious

About 15 minutes before the wedding, I can't quite figure out what Paige is thinking.  ;)

Fire!

It wasn't hot enough Saturday so I draped my body over the prayer candles for this shot.

Shapes

Just a quick silhouette of Sunday's bride.

Party Shot

Paige is having a little get together this weekend and wanted a print from our session on Morris Ave to show off her guy. Don't they look perfect together? The answer is yes. ;) Her June wedding pix will be available on www.rickpennington.com about two weeks after the big day.

A few minutes on Morris Ave

The end of March always offers some much needed warmer weather, bright light therapy and the chance to escape the confines of the studio and indoor shoots. So Paige, Matt and I went "kickin' down the cobblestones, look at the fun in feelin' groovy." My apologies to Simon & Garfunkel. The rest of the session may be viewed on www.rickpennington.com.

Hiding in plain sight

Meet Amy and Nicole, two young assistant photogs in their natural habitat. Notice the clever camouflage to keep them from being spotted while stalking their subjects during a wedding reception at The Club. ;)
More traditional shots from the event can be found at http://www.rickpennington.com next week.
